FAQ's
Can acupuncture help with fertility?
Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can support fertility by helping to regulate hormone signalling and your cycle, ease stress and improve sleep, alongside whatever medical care you're receiving. In Chinese medicine, we look at the whole picture: your cycle, sleep, energy, gut health and emotions all tell part of the story, and balancing the whole of you stacks the deck in your favour for conceiving. I can't promise a pregnancy, and no honest practitioner can. What I can offer is calm, consistent, evidence based care tailored to where you are right now.
When should I start acupuncture if I'm doing IVF?
Ideally, around three months before your egg collection or transfer. That's roughly how long an egg takes to mature, so it gives us time to support your cycle, sleep, stress and circulation before treatment begins. That said, it's never too late to start. I regularly see people who come in a week or two before transfer, and we simply focus on what matters most for that stage.
Do you treat male fertility?
Yes. Fertility is a shared story, and sperm health matters just as much. Sperm take around three months to develop, so lifestyle, sleep, stress and diet all have a real influence. I see men on their own or as part of a couple, and treatment is just as personalised.
Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?
Acupuncture is generally considered safe in pregnancy when it's given by a registered practitioner trained in pregnancy care. Some points are avoided in pregnancy, and I adjust treatment for each trimester. I also spent over a decade as a birth doula and childbirth educator before becoming an acupuncturist, so supporting women in this stage of their life is close to my heart.
What can acupuncture help with in pregnancy?
People often come to me for nausea, fatigue, back and pelvic pain, headaches, sleep, and the emotional ups and downs of pregnancy. Later on, I offer pre-birth sessions to help ready your body for labour, answer questions and help you feel calm and prepared. I'll always encourage you to keep your midwife or obstetrician in the loop.
Can I come in after my baby is born?
Yes, and I'd love to see you. Whether you birthed vaginally or by C Section, the weeks postpartum are a time Chinese medicine pays special attention to. Postnatal care can support physical recovery, sleep, energy and mood. Babies are welcome in the treatment room.
What should you do to be ready for your first appointment?
For all initial appointments, please arrive five minutes early and notify us in advance if you are running late. Ensure any relevant consent forms are completed prior to your visit. We recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that can be easily adjusted if needed. Please bring any relevant test results or medical reports to your appointment. It is also advisable to have a light meal beforehand, as receiving acupuncture on an empty stomach may cause discomfort
Can acupuncture help with menopause symptoms?
Many women come to me for hot flushes, night sweats, broken sleep, anxiety, low mood and brain fog during perimenopause and menopause. In Chinese medicine, we often see this as a shift in the balance of Yin and Yang, and treatment aims to gently restore that balance. Acupuncture can be used on its own or alongside hormone therapy from your GP.
Okay to change or cancel appointments?
We understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise. If you are unable to attend your appointment, you may reschedule or cancel online via your booking portal or through the confirmation email provided. As a small practice, late cancellations and missed appointments can significantly impact our ability to offer care to other patients and maintain the smooth running of the clinic. Please be advised that a full cancellation fee applies to appointments cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled time. No fee is charged for cancellations made more than 24 hours in advance. Appointments rescheduled within 24 hours may also incur a fee. This policy does not apply to patients who go into labour, for whom cancellation fees are waived.
Using private health?
Great! When you have completed your appointment, we will process your claim on the spot. We can also email you the receipt for you to claim. If you have purchased a discounted Care Package or Gift voucher, we send you an individual receipt after each appointment so that you can claim through your private health care.
